People always say that you can learn English through watching movies or TV series, but what can you EXACTLY learn from them? Do you know that you can learn new vocabulary and practise your English skills by watching YouTube videos?

For many students, listening is challenging because…

  • they may think the speakers speak too fast;

  • they may have a limited vocabulary;

  • they may have weak phonological awareness (e.g. they can’t recognise individual sounds).

If you are facing the same problems, you will probably find this YouTube channel useful.

In each video, the host introduces a song, movie or TV show (e.g. Harry Potter, Marvel movies, interviews with celebrities) and highlights the speech features (e.g. connected speech, pronunciation of a particular sound). He/ She also explains all the difficult vocabulary items and jokes so that you can understand everything without subtitles by the end of the video.

For example, you can learn English from an authentic interview with Jenna Ortega who plays Wednesday Adams in the video below. Apart from learning some vocabulary items related to the film industry, like “walkthrough”, “stunt” and “blocking”, you can practise some connected speech features (e.g. deletion of the /t/ sound, weak forms) so as to speak English more fluently.

Have a look at the channel and learn English while watching your favourite TV series!

很多人都說可以透過看英文電影和電視劇,或是聽英文歌去學英文,但當中你可以實際學到什麼呢?

很多學生認為英文聆聽很困難,因為:

- 他們認為講者說得太快,跟不上;

- 他們不懂很多單字;
